Wisconsin Supreme Court Election Matters

Flip the Court: Taking Action for Fair Elections

As political observers, it can be easy to get caught up in social media posts and memes. However, if we really want to make a difference, we need to do more than just share content. One person who exemplifies this spirit is Ben Wikler, a highly effective Democratic Party chairman and organizer who played a crucial role in the 2020 Wisconsin Supreme Court election victory of Jill Karofsky and demonstrated that an election matters.

Grassroots organizing is a way of campaigning that focuses on mobilizing voters at the local level instead of relying solely on big donors or corporate interests. Wikler’s success is due, in part, to his effective leadership and organizational skills. He used specific strategies and tactics to mobilize volunteers and create a sense of community among supporters.

Our Efforts in 2020 May Have Helped Save Democracy

The 2020 Wisconsin Supreme Court election was critical, as the outcome potentially affects women’s right to choose, bodily autonomy, and other issues that Republicans have been trying to undermine. Wisconsin’s state legislatures are so gerrymandered that Republicans still hold a significant advantage even in a state that is essentially 50-50.

Also, by Karofsky winning the election in 2020, she was in the position to cast the decisive vote against overturning the will of the people. If the Wisconsin Supreme Court had ruled differently other states might have followed suit. Republicans have shown little integrity when it comes to defending democracy and have often chosen authoritarianism over multicultural liberal democracy.

Protect Women’s Rights & Democracy in Wisconsin

Another Supreme Court seat is up for election next month – April 4th. If Democrats win, it will protect a woman’s right to choose and pave the way to redraw fair congressional districts. Wisconsin is a 50/50 state, but Republicans have nearly a 70/30 electoral edge due to partisan gerrymandering.

We have an opportunity to make a difference by helping Ben and Wisconsin Democrats win this seat to protect democracy. Ben has an upcoming “Virtual Happy Hour” where you can hear directly from him why this election is so important. After the Happy Hour, you can pick your activity to become involved in.
